Woman left mortified after being kicked off plane over 'inappropriate' leggings

A woman has said she was left mortified after she was kicked off a plane due to her “offensive and inappropriate” leggings.

Hwang So-hee, a South Korean DJ by the name of DJ Soda, has claimed she was booted off a flight all because of what she was wearing.

Even though she was initially let onto the American Airlines flight from New York to LA in the US, she was then told to leave because of her leggings which said “f*** off” all over them.

She shared her story on Twitter to her followers.

She said: "A staff suddenly approached me to pack up my belongings and leave the plane without any kind of explanation.

"As I was escorted off the plane, they claimed that my sweatpants were 'inappropriate' and 'offensive' telling me that I need to take the next flight."

Ms So-hee said she “pleaded to stay on the flight” because she had an important meeting to get to but even after offering to change was told she couldn’t.

She described what happened next as “horrendous”, and said: "With my broken fingers, I hardly ended up taking off my pants in front of the whole crew and standing half-naked while they still refused to board me on the flight.

"They even sarcastically commented that I could have taken off my pants earlier."

After turning her leggings inside out she said she was eventually allowed back onto the flight but this was after delaying take-off by an hour.

“I have never had an issue with wearing this pair of pants before in my many months of touring in North America and they did not have any problem with me wearing it at the time of check-in nor when I sat down at my seat," she said.

She added: "In my 8 years of touring, I have never experienced or been treated unfairly, especially in a country that is known for its freedom of speech and individuality."

She claimed she was left “mortified and trembling in fear” for the six hour flight and said she would never fly American Airlines in the future.

On the airline’s Conditions of Carriage, it says passengers must “dress appropriately” and “offensive clothing isn’t allowed”

Social media users were split over being aghast at her treatment or thinking her sweary leggings had warranted the ban.

A spokesperson for American Airlines said: “American Airlines policies prohibit offensive clothing. During the boarding process for American Airlines Flight 306 at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), our team members informed Ms. Hwang of our policies and provided her the opportunity to change out of clothing displaying explicit language. The customer complied with requests and was allowed to continue travel, as planned, to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).”
