Woman left homeless after being rejected by long-lost family in Kenya finally back in UK

A woman was left heartbroken and homeless after travelling to Kenya hoping to reunite with family - but instead was met with brutal rejection.

Peris Newlove vowed not to give up until her mum Rose was back in the UK, after she found herself stuck overseas with nowhere permanent to stay and coughing up blood when her medication ran out.

She has now finally returned home after her ordeal thanks to generous strangers who “saved her life”.

Rose, 50, travelled to her native country in east Africa in 2019 with just enough money for her airline ticket.

She had hoped to live on her grandad's farm, but Peris claims her mum was shunned by her relatives because of her lack of cash, LeedsLive reports.

Rose, who had surgery after being diagnosed with thyroid cancer and now requires life-long treatment, also ran out of the prescribed medication and was coughing up blood.

Daughter Peris had previously said: "This is a very difficult time for me as my mother Rose decided to go back to Kenya but she has found herself in a bad way.

"She is homeless, has no food, no shelter and can only contact me through her phone when she is able to get help from strangers."

After setting up a fundraising page on GoFundMe, she managed to raise enough money to bring her mum back home after three years.

Rose landed back in the UK on Wednesday and has reunited with her daughters and two grandchildren whom she hadn’t met in person, including Peris’s daughter who turns one this weekend.

Peris added: “I’m really happy because it was just a really stressful time but now she’s here.

“She’s grateful, she’s really happy to be back with her daughters.

“It was a very rough time being homeless out there, she’s happy to be back home.

"If all those people didn’t help then she would still be out there still.

"It’s amazing how good people are, it restores your faith in humanity especially with the way things are sometimes.

S he first had enough money to send to her mum so that she could buy medication and food, but said her spare funds have now run out.

In July, Peris said: "Last time she ran out of her medication she was coughing up blood and ended up in a Nairobi hospital,

"I really don't have any money to help her so that is why I have created a GoFundMe. I am embarrassed to put our story out there but she is in need of help and if I can't help her I'm unsure what will happen."

In an update on July 2, Peris said: "My mother has now bought medication and food and applied for a passport. Jesus works miracles."
