Woman left emotional after finding letter her grandad sent to Santa 85 years ago

Santa is sent more than seven million letters from all over the world - and while he can't reply to them all, he always tries to make children's wishes come true. One woman has shared the adorable letter her grandad wrote to Father Christmas when he was a boy in 1937 - but sadly, she doesn't know whether he got his wish.

The letter, which includes a hand-drawn King George VI stamp on its envelope, reads: "Dear Santa Claus. Ten days from now, Christmas will be here. All little girls and boys at school and those who are ill in be will be made happier and know when you call. I would like a Meccano set and, hoping for the best, I wish you a merry Christmas."

Meccano was created by Frank Hornby in 1898 and has been included on countless Christmas lists since its company was established 10 years later. Today, its products can be bought on Amazon, Smyths Toys Superstore, Argos and Sainsbury's.

The Reddit post has been shared by user moyeses and has received more than 3,100 upvotes and almost 80 comments.

She wrote: "My Grandfather's letter to Santa in 1937. I only found these a couple days ago.

"My mum was clearing through my Grannies stuff and it was in the envelope with a bunch of poems and letters in a small bag.

"I have no idea how they are in such good condition."

While most users commented on the boy's Christmas request, others commented on his "beautiful" handwriting.

One user said: "Good choice! The original Lego Technic and it predated the Erector set."

Another user added: "You can tell he used his very best handwriting and most polite language - that's adorable."

A third user said: "You should frame it and then you have an awesome decoration to hang up at Christmas and your kids and grandkids will have it too."

Another user joked: "Asking for stuff ten days before Christmas? Cutting it a bit close, kid."
