Woman left disgusted after 'mould' found in Marks and Spencer ready meal

A woman has been left disgusted after finding 'layers of mould' in her Marks and Spencer ready meal.

The shopper, called Julie, went to her local M&S Food Hall and bought a 'Main for Two, Vegetable Kyiv' with mushrooms, peppers, sweetcorn, brown rice and petit fois filled with a garlic sauce on Saturday, July 1. However, when she got home, she says she found the meal 'plastered in mould'.

Julie, from Coventry, tried to phone M&S but was told they couldn't put her through to speak to a representative as it was past 5pm, so she contacted the company on social media.

She told Coventry Live: "I went to Twitter. They responded back to me the next day offering a £5 gift voucher. I told them my thoughts as they had ruined my evening and I could have been made seriously ill if I had eaten the meal.

"I was then offered a £15 gift card, but I just think it's terrible and this incident should be looked into."

Julie has contacted Coventry City Council and has kept the meal, which was purchased from the store at Warwickshire Shopping Park, in case of further tests from officials.

An M&S spokesperson said: "The quality of our products is the most important thing for M&S, so we were very surprised to hear of this issue and have asked our supplier to investigate. We have apologised to our customer and offered her a gesture of goodwill to say sorry for her experience."
