Woman killed in 'hit and run' on Scots street named by police

A woman who tragically died after being knocked down in a suspected 'hit and run' near Falkirk has been named.

April Mitchell was struck on the A872 at Avonside Drive, Denny, at around 12.30am on Thursday, December 15. Emergency services raced to the scene but the 53-year-old, from Dunipace, was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Her family has asked that their privacy is respected at this time. Police have since launched a probe into the incident, having initially closed the road between Stirling and Dunipace in an attempt to locate the vehicle involved.

Their enquiries remain ongoing, and anyone with any information on the event is being asked to get in touch with officers immediately.

Inspector Stephen Quinn said: “Our investigation to identify the vehicle involved and the full circumstances remains ongoing, and we continue to appeal to anyone with information to come forward.

“Our thoughts remain with April’s family and friends at this terrible time.

“Anyone with information, or potential dashcam or CCTV footage, is urged to contact police on 101, quoting incident 0071 of 15 December, 2022.”
