A 54-year-old woman has died after being struck by a falling tree during stormy weather in Beulah on Tasmania's northwest coast.

Police and emergency services were called to the scene about 5pm on Saturday, following reports two people had been trapped under a fallen tree.

Tasmania Police said both were treated at the scene but the woman did not survive her injuries.

A 54-year-old man was taken to Launceston General Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said dangerous weather conditions were occurring and people should stay indoors and avoid travelling on the roads, with some powerlines down in the area.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
