An innocent female passenger has died following a car crash after a police chase on the A13 in east London, police have confirmed.
According to Essex Police, a vehicle failed to stop when requested to by officers about 2.30am on Friday.
Officers pursued the vehicle along the motorway until it crashed into a seperate vehicle, near Rainham, killing a passenger.
Chief Superintendent Stuart Hooper, Essex Police gold commander, said: “Despite the best efforts of officers and medics at the scene, a female passenger in the second vehicle has now died.”
The driver of the first car has been taken to hospital.
The incident has been referred to the Independent Office of Police Conduct.
The A13 has been closed in both directions between the Goresbrook Interchange and Lodge Avenue Flyover. The AA has reported heavy congestion as far back as the M25 and A13 Mardyke Interchange in Aveley.
