Woman killed after being struck by car on busy Lanarkshire motorway

A woman has been killed after she was struck by a car on a busy Lanarkshire motorway at the weekend.

The male driver of the vehicle was also taken to hospital following the tragic incident at 7.10pm on Saturday on the M8, near junction eight.

Road policing officers are now appealing for information following the fatal crash near the slip road for Coatbridge Road.

The 49-year-old woman was struck by a white BMW 5 Series car before emergency services attended but sadly she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 41-year-old driver was taken to Monklands Hospital as a precaution and the motorway was closed for crash investigation before re-opening around 2am on Sunday.

Sergeant Nicholas Twigg told Lanarkshire Live : “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who has died and our enquiries to establish the full circumstances of what happened continue.

“We are asking anyone who saw the woman before the crash or saw what happened to get in touch.

"Anyone with dash-cam footage that could help with our investigation is also asked to contact us.”

People who can assist officers are asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2868 of Saturday, November 19.
