Woman kicks off in Paisley supermarket and spits at police officer while foaming at the mouth

A woman who threatened a Paisley supermarket worker and then spat at a female cop has been jailed.

Kayleigh Forrester, described as a prisoner of Greenock Prison, appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court via video link on Friday when she admitted she made threats to an Iceland employee in Glasgow Road on October 25 last year.

Forrester, 25, also admitted making racial remarks on the same date at Govan police office and to assaulting a police officer by spitting on her, seizing her by the hand, digging her nails into her and attempting to bite her.

Procurator fiscal Kerry Marshall told the court: “On Monday October 25, the witness Margaret Paterson and another witness were on duty in their roles as checkout operators.

“The accused and another person entered the shop and the witness Paterson was required to challenge the accused regarding another matter.

“Paterson asked the accused to leave the shop and indicated she was barred from the store.

“The accused began to shout and swear at Ms Paterson.

“She shouted phrases such as, ‘I’m going to f*****g smash you.’ while pointing at the witness Paterson.

“The police were contacted and when they arrived Forrester was arrested and taken to Govan police station.

“She was originally placed in a holding cell.

“PC Leah Vernon-Jones was dealing with the accused and had to take her to the prone position due to her behaviour.

“During this, PC Vernon-Jones was holding the accused’s arm and the accused attempted to bite the officer’s right hand.

“The accused was told to desist but the accused looked at PC Vernon-Jones with saliva foaming in her mouth and proceeded to spit towards her.

“A spit hood was applied but Forrester grabbed it and continued to attempt to bite the officer.

“Forrester grabbed the officer’s hand and embedded her nails in her hand.

“The accused was handcuffed to the rear and the spit hood was successfully applied.

“On being taken to a cell, the accused began shouting and swearing at another prisoner.

“She shouted, ‘What are you f*****g looking at ... u f*****g P**i?.’

“She was placed in a cell where she continued to shout and swear.

“The accused stated, ‘I’ll smash you. I know people and can find out where you live.’

“She was cautioned and charged and made no reply.”

Forrester’s defence agent explained she was subject to an unexpired jail sentence and she “under the influence” at the time of the offence. He added: “My client was struggling in the community at the time of the offence.

“There was a suggestion that £2 had been stolen and matters escalated.

“She caused no injury to any party and she virtually has no finger nails and wouldn’t be capable of breaking the skin.”

Sheriff Eoin McGinty said: “This was a case of appalling behaviour.

“You threatened and abused people at their work.

“You have an appalling history of serious violence.”

Sheriff McGinty invoked Section 16 and ordered Forrester to four months of her unexpired jail portion and added a further 98 days imprisonment to be served.
