Woman injured in level crossing lorry crash as trains halted

A woman was injured in a crash involving a lorry and car on a level crossing. Trains were stopped following the collision which happened at around 11.45am on Thursday in Caersws, a village in Powys.

An air ambulance was called to the scene but the woman was taken to hospital by road. Dyfed-Powys Police said at 12.53pm: "The level crossing at Caersws is currently closed due to a collision. Please avoid the area for the time being and find an alternative route. Thank you."

A spokeswoman for the force added at 2.27pm: "One woman has suffered injuries. Due to the position of the vehicles, trains were put on stop. The car and lorry will be recovered from the scene before the road is reopened."

The force said the woman's injuries do not appear to be "life-threatening or life-changing". A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called today (13 April) shortly before 11.45am to reports of a road traffic collision in Caersws. We sent one rapid response vehicle and an emergency ambulance to the scene, where we were supported by the Wales Air Ambulance. One person was taken by road to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for further treatment.” You can read more of the latest breaking news from across Wales here.
