A woman has been injured after her car smashed into a tree on a Lanarkshire road.
The crash happened around 7.40pm last night (Wednesday) forcing the B743 near to Murkirk Road in Strathaven to close for several hours.
The driver of the car, a 33-year-old woman, is said to have suffered minor injuries in the collision.
Emergency services including police and ambulance raced to the scene as motorists were diverted on alternative routes.
The tree that was hit fell to the ground and blocked off the road.
South Lanarkshire Council was advised of the incident and it is understood the local authority sent teams to the scene to remove the tree and clear the area.
A spokeswoman from Police Scotland told Lanarkshire Live : “Police attended a report of a car having crashed into a tree on the B743 near to Muirkirk Road, Strathaven.
“The 33-year-old female driver sustained minor injuries.
“The local council was informed regarding the tree that was blocking the road.”
The council's roads department posted on social media last night after the crash took place to alert motorists that road was forced to shut.
It read: "The B743 Muirkirk Road is closed south of Strathaven at Gainerhill Farm due to falling trees and an accident."
They further advised shortly after 6.30am this morning (February 17) that the road has now reopened.
