Woman in her 80s dies after she was knocked over while crossing road in County Durham

A woman in her 80s died after being knocked over by a car in County Durham.

Durham Constabulary have now launched an investigation after a woman died after being hit outside of Cockton Hill News, in Cockton Hill Road, Bishop Auckland, at around 2.30pm on Friday, March 11.

The woman, who was in her 80s, was knocked over by a white BMW, which was travelling from the town centre towards the Watling Street crossroads, whilst attempting to cross the road.

She suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital but did not recover. Durham Constabulary are now appealing to the public for any information which may help with their investigation.

A spokesperson for the force said: "If you have any information, especially dash cam footage, call 101 and ask to speak to DC Jayne Gatland quoting incident reference number 249 of March 11."
