Woman in her 70s in serious condition after being 'dragged' from under a van

A woman in her 70s is in a "serious but stable" condition after being "dragged" from underneath a van by passersby.

An appeal has now been launched to find witnesses and dashcam footage that may be able to assist police following a serious collision on the A59 Liverpool Road in Burscough yesterday afternoon. At around 12.15pm emergency services were called to the main road following reports of a collision.

A woman was hit by a Vauxhall Vivaro van near the Bull and Dog pub. As a result, the road was shut for a number of hours and one witness explained how the woman was dragged from under the van by a number of people.

It has now been revealed that the woman suffered serious injuries and her condition is described as "serious but stable" after she was airlifted from the scene to Aintree Hospital. An off-duty nurse at the scene told the ECHO: "A lady was stuck under the van and about 20 people lifted it off her and dragged her out.

"She was conscious and breathing throughout. I am an off duty nurse and my partner who helped was an off duty paramedic."

Sgt David Hurst, of Lancashire Police’s Tactical Operations, said: “This collision has left a woman with some very serious injuries and my thoughts are with her and her loved ones at this time. We are working to establish the full circumstances of what led to the collision and I would ask anybody who could assist to contact police as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting log 0537 of April 2, 2022. You can upload footage here: https://orlo.uk/mk1uY.
