An elderly woman, aged in her 70s, is in a serious condition after she was hit by a car on the outskirts of Galway city yesterday.
The incident happened in Dangan on the N59 Galway to Moycullen Road, at around 4.50pm on Monday, causing heavy disruption to traffic.
The woman was walking when she was knocked down by a car in what was described as a "serious road traffic collision".

Emergency services attended the scene and the woman was taken to University Hospital Galway, where she is being treated for her injuries.
Gardai are now appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident, or has dash-cam footage, to contact them.
A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision that occurred on the N59 in Dangan, Co. Galway yesterday afternoon, Monday 19th December 2022.
"At approximately 4.50pm yesterday, a car collided with a pedestrian on the Galway to Moycullen Road. The female pedestrian (70s) was taken to University Hospital Galway where her condition is described as serious.
"No other injuries have been reported.
"A technical examination of the scene has been completed by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and the road has since reopened.
"Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward.
"Any road users who were in the vicinity of the N59 at Dangan, Co. Galway between 4.30pm and 5pm yesterday 19th December 2022, and who may have camera footage (including dash cam) is asked to make this available to Gardaí.
"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Galway Garda Station on 091 538000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station."
