A woman is in a critical condition after being hit by a car while walking in Darwin's rural area this morning, with another person also injured and two pet dogs killed in the incident.

In a statement this morning, NT Police said the vehicle was travelling down Bees Creek Road around 5:20am today when it struck a man and a woman.

The woman, 49, has been taken to Royal Darwin Hospital in a critical condition with spinal injuries.

The man, 50, was treated for minor injuries to his leg and was also taken to hospital.

The pair's two dogs were also hit by the car and died at the scene.
