Man's rampage caught on camera on high street

A woman said she was "horrified" after CCTV captured a man's rampage on a Merseyside high street and targeted her shop.

Kate Johnston, who owns Hot Stuff Stoves on Market Street in Hoylake, was alerted to the footage on Tuesday, February 14 at around 10.15pm. The beginning of the 25 second clip shows the man, wearing a blue jacket, dark-coloured pants and blue trainers, come into view of the CCTV camera situated outside Hot Stuff Stoves.

The video shows the man holding something in his hand, but it is unclear from the footage what the object is. He then launches the object in his hand at the glass window of the store, causing it to smash.

The man walks off before deciding to retrieve the item which has fallen on the floor. Moments later, the man can be seen walking down Market Street and stopping outside another premises.

He once again launches the object at the window. Merseyside Police confirmed three businesses were damaged on the road. Kate said she was "horrified" when she saw the CCTV footage and after it happened went straight to the store.

Speaking to the ECHO, she said: "I was very shocked when I got the phone call and drove to the shop straight away unsure what to expect. When I saw the level of damage I was horrified and so disappointed that someone would go that with no care whatsoever for the cost and inconvenience they cause."

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We are appealing for information following reports of criminal damage in Hoylake on Tuesday 14 February.

"At around 10.20pm, we received a report that damage had been caused to a business on Market Street. Officers attended and found damage had been caused to three businesses on the road.
