A woman paid tribute to her late grandma in an unusual but sweet way - by taking a pair of her knickers along to a Tom Jones concert to throw at the stage.
Helen Gauntlett was a Tom Jones superfan, but sadly never got to see the It’s Not Unusual singer perform live before she passed away in February last year. But her granddaughter Kirsty Graham made sure her gran was there in spirit when she attended the Cardiff concert on Saturday.
Kirsty wrote on a pair of her grandma’s underwear: “These are my nan’s (clean) knickers. She is watching from heaven. But left these to throw at Tom.” Kirsty felt it was the most fitting way to honour her gran, who she was incredibly close to throughout her life, WalesOnline reports .
Kirsty said in a Facebook post encouraging people on the social media platform to help get her nan’s undergarments to her favourite singer: “I know if she was here, she would be swinging her knickers for Tom.”
Helen’s favourite Tom Jones hits included Delilah and You Are My World, which she would regularly sing along to. “She was the best woman who ever lived and I miss her so, so much,” Kirsty said of her beloved grandma.
She added that her nan claimed to know Tom on a more personal level. “She always told me that when she was 14 she snogged him at a phone box in Ponty,” Kirsty said.
“I’ve always believed her, but many didn’t because you know what nans are like with their stories. She upheld that though, she was adamant,” she added.
The 34-year-old from Caerphilly, Wales, ensured she picked the right pair of pants for the occasion when it came to the tribute. “Out of all the knickers she had, I had to make sure I picked her best Marks & Spencer ones, otherwise she’d be smacking my bun,” Kirsty said.
