Woman hit in neck by firework as it smashed through window and destroyed home

A woman was hit on the neck by a firework which exploded and destroyed her home, in what appears to have been a deliberate attack. The woman did not suffer serious injuries but all her possessions have been destroyed after the incident.

Firefighters were called to a flat in Merseyside at 7pm on Sunday where a firework which had been aimed at the address had started a blaze. Neighbours say a number of fireworks had been aimed at the flats.

Images have since been shared to the ECHO A neighbour said the woman who lived there, who does not wish to be named, was sitting on the couch when a firework flew through her window, hitting her on the neck before it "exploded".

She said: "Fireworks had been being aimed towards the flats continuously for days before this. On Sunday, one broke through the living room window of one of the flats and hit the girl who lives there in the neck as she was on the couch before exploding and causing a fire which spread to the front of the flat too.

"The walls of the flat were previously white. Luckily (and shockingly) she isn’t seriously injured, but thanks to this she’s lost her home and has had to experience something that’s enough to traumatise anyone."

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the flat and extinguished the fire using two hose reel jets. The fire had been extinguished by 7.13pm and a full search of the flat was carried out, with everyone accounted for.

One person was assessed at the scene by North West Ambulance Service, but did not require further treatment. Fire crews left the scene at 8.39pm and handed the incident over to Merseyside Police, who cordoned off the road for several hours.
