Woman had mice running through her hair as horror rodent invasion destroys home

This Morning fans shuddered as Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby spoke to a woman who had fallen victim to the current plague of billions of mice terrorising Australia.

The nation's worst ever mice plague comes after a particularly bountiful harvest, with some farmers reported to have lost $300,000 in stock.

The hosts spoke to a woman called Anne, who lived on a farm and has spent more than $40,000 (£22,000) trying to rid her home of the mice, which she found in her hair.

Anne explained: "I came back into my house and it was dark, I turned on the light and of course they all come out at night time, so the mice were all over my bed, the veranda.

"They had eaten through a beanbag so the beanbag was all over the floor, it was just a nightmare, I thought to myself, 'What on earth do I do?'

"You can't go and sleep in your car, because they are in your car, so I had to find another bedroom that was more secure, but I have mice running over my hair."

Phil asked: "How bad has it got, where have they got in your home?"

Anne replied: "Well you're sitting watching television and you see them running across the floor.

"My house is an old house, I've managed to put some steel wool under doors and in spots where I think they are coming in, but you really can't stop them.

"I have put a lot of poison around the house, and that has helped but you are trapping all the time too.

"The smell is just absolutely putrid, but you get used to it, you have no noice, and it's absolutely revolting.

"Every morning I throw out a bucket of dead mice, but there are so many you cannot see."

Phil then revealed his mother is terrified of mice and that he failed to warn her about the upcoming segment, and he know she would have been horrified.

He later confirmed she had text him demanding to know if he was trying to kill her.

One viewer tweeted: "Philip could have warned me as well as his mum about the mice story. I literally screamed at my tv #hatemice #thismorning ".

A third added: "As if the snakes, spiders and crocodiles weren't bad enough - now Australia have got mice! #ThisMorning ".
