A DRUNK driver lost control of a four-wheel drive and hit a pedestrian walking his dog before careering into buildings in Maitland's main street.

Jodie Reinikka, 35, appeared in Maitland Local Court on Wednesday where she pleaded guilty to high-range drink driving, causing bodily harm by misconduct and reckless driving over the crash in High Street on March 14 this year.

Reinikka will next appear in court on September 25 to be sentenced.

Emergency services were called to the popular retail strip after Reinikka's car mounted the footpath, struck a man walking his dog and rammed into nearby buildings about 9am.

The dog-walker, believed to be a man in his 50s, suffered suspected fractures to his leg and lay injured as the vehicle continued on up the path, slamming into two buildings.

The pedestrian was taken to Maitland hospital for treatment, police said, while the town's library and nearby carpark were closed for days due to the damage done to a neighbouring building.
