The record for the world's longest fingernails has been smashed after a woman in the US was unable to cut her nails following a tragic death.
US-based Diana Armstrong, 63, has officially registered her fingernails totalling 42ft 10.4ins.
With her nails longer than a double-decker bus, she has understandable difficulty with basic daily tasks such as driving, using the bathroom and zipping up her clothes.
The incredible measurement means she is the holder of a new Guinness World Record for the longest ever fingernails on a pair of hands.
She is unable to visit a salon to maintain the mammoth nails and revealed looking after them is a family affair.
Her grandchildren help look after them with it taking between five and 10 hours to polish and file just one nail.
Diana revealed she became unable to cut her nails after the tragic passing of one of her daughters.
She already had long nails and she bonded with daughter Latisha over manicures, who passed away in 1997 at 16-years-old after suffering an asthma attack
She said: "[My kids] never knew why I was growing them. I didn’t tell anybody. I kept it to myself until I finally told [my kids] why I was growing them.
"And they were like, ‘Why didn’t you tell us that?’ because everybody was getting embarrassed about what people were saying. It made them feel bad, so I felt bad, so I just told them: ‘Y’all can tell me to cut my nails but I just can’t do it.’"
"I’ve always had long nails, but not to this extent. Even when I was little, I always had longer fingernails. My mom always grew her nails, so I always had nails like my mom."
The keratin-queen was a "treat to work with," according to adjudicator Mike Marcotte.
Mike said: "Diana was a treat to work with, being extremely patient as I, accompanied by health experts, took official measurements and verified information, a process that took a considerable amount of time."
The previous record was held by Ayanna Williams, with nails measuring 18ft 9.7in.
Guinness World Records Editor-in-Chief said the achievement "was in his all-time favourite record category".
He said: "The story behind her record is as fascinating as it is heartbreaking, and Diana's determination to honour her daughter's legacy in her unique way is inspiring.
"Family means everything for Diana, and she's lucky to have gathered around her a wonderful support network... which is what you need when each of your fingernails is longer than a ski pole."
