NEW DELHI: Two factory workers were arrested for allegedly raping a 26-year-old woman in west Delhi’s Hari Nagar. The incident took place on Tuesday night. The accused have been booked for abduction and gang rape. The woman used to earlier work in the same factory as the accused.
In her complaint, the woman alleged that she was returning from Khyala after work on Tuesday evening when the two men stopped her to have a conversation. They allegedly took her to a nearby park and raped her. The accused then took her to their rented accommodation in a slum cluster nearby and sexually assaulted her again.
The woman claimed they refused to let her leave when she pleaded with them to allow her to go home. They also thrashed and threatened her. Her mobile phone was taken away when she tried to call for help. She was finally left in the park early in the morning.
After the survivor approached police for help, she was taken to a hospital for medical treatment. An FIR was registered and a team was formed to conduct raids to nab the accused. The two men were arrested from their houses. An officer said they were probing their criminal antecedents.
Delhi Police data showed that last year, 1,969 rape cases were reported in the city. In 98.8% of the rape cases, the accused were known to the victims and in only 1%, strangers were involved.
