Woman fuming after neighbour demands she stop using her own garden

A woman has been left fuming after her neighbour demanded she stop using the bottom half of her own garden because it 'affects his privacy'.

The resident was shocked at the request from one of her neighbours after he tried to place restrictions on where she could enjoy her back garden.

He claimed that using the lower half affected his privacy but after the woman took measures to address this, he fumed that he wanted his view back.

As reported in the Mirror, the woman lives in a house where the garden backs onto her neighbour's house and a window in the property overlooks her outdoor space.

She claimed her neighbour initially complained that his privacy was affected when he was using the room that overlooked her garden so he asked her to stop using the bottom half.

To address the issue, the woman put up a taller fence so she could continue to use the lower half of her garden but the neighbour again complained at the solution.

In a post on Mumsnet, she wrote: "We live in a house where two separate streets meet and have adjoining gardens. The back wall of our neighbour's house is the boundary wall to our garden. There is a downstairs window on this wall that looks directly into our garden.

"Our neighbour asked us not to use the bottom part of our garden as it affected his privacy when he used this room. We put a screen up so we could use our garden privately, but the neighbour has complained that it affects his light and wants the view of our garden back.

"We've asked him to close his curtains but he refuses and he can't see anywhere other than our garden from the window so it's not like he's using our garden to look over to a better view."

People flocked to the comments section tell the woman she should be able to use whichever part of her garden she liked.

"He is unreasonable!", someone fumed. "Use your garden however you like."

Another raged: "It's your garden, use it. He can't have it both ways!"

While a third wrote: "Suggest privacy film. We had a similar set-up, but it was our front door giving a direct view into a neighbour's patio doors. Their privacy film helped a lot."
