Homicide squad detectives have launched an investigation after a 51-year-old woman was found dead inside a home in Perth's northern suburbs last night.
The woman's body was found at the house on Hardcastle Avenue in Landsdale just before 9pm.
A 55-year-old man, who is believed to be known to the victim, is in police custody, but no charges have been laid.
Police said the man was receiving treatment in hospital under police guard for injuries that appeared to be self-inflicted.
Footage from the scene showed a man strapped to a chair being wheeled outside by ambulance officers.
He was placed on a stretcher before being taken away by an ambulance.
Detective Senior Sergeant Steve Cleal said the victim suffered multiple wounds to her body.
"There were several calls made [for police to go] to the house, there were screaming noises and obvious signs of a disturbance," he said.
"There were also calls from family members concerned for the welfare of the victim."
He said there was no ongoing threat to the community.
Onlookers shout abuse at man
Neighbour Melika Serpas came across the crime scene on her way home from work around 8:30pm.
"I saw an ambulance in front of that house but I always see ambulances there so I didn't think anything of it," she said.
Ms Serpas said onlookers yelled abuse at the man, threatening they "were going to do something."
"I didn't see anyone from that house, but they were yelling towards the house," she said.
Police 'often in area': neighbour
Police presence has become increasingly common in the area, according to Ms Serpas.
"I've been in this house for over 10 years now and it's starting to become normal … where there's so much police emphasis on one house," she said.
Halle Mableson lives on the same street and said she and her mum offered blankets to grieving loved ones outside the home.
"There were two young people sitting on the side of the road crying," she said.
"It was just so surreal. You could see how hurt they were.
"I literally drive past that house every day and you would have no idea what's going on inside."
Sergeant Cleal said detectives were expected to remain at the scene for some time.
Police have appealed for anyone with information relating to the woman's death to contact Crime Stoppers.
