Woman found dead in Greenock flat and man rushed to hospital as cops probe 'unexplained' death

A woman has been found dead in a flat in Greenock and a man has been rushed to hospital.

Cops received reports of a fire at a property on Dempster Street in the town around 11.45pm last night.

Emergency crews including Police Scotland and Scottish Ambulance Service officers raced to the property after the alarm was raised.

A 61-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man from a neighbouring flat was also taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital for treatment.

His condition is not yet known, nor is the nature of the incident.

Officers are currently treating the woman's death as unexplained.

An investigation has been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding last night's events.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of a fire at a property on Dempster Street, Greenock, around 11.45pm on Sunday, 3 April, 2022.

“Emergency services attended and a 61-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

“A male from a neighbouring property was taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital for treatment.

“The death is currently being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing."
