Woman found dead at house as police investigate unexplained death

A woman who was found dead at a house has sparked a police investigation.

Demi Davies paid a visit to her mum Kelly Randall just over two months ago to hand over presents for her 45th birthday.

Little did she know that their meeting on April 1 was the last time that she was ever going to see or hear from her, Wales Online reports.

Just over a month later, on May 5, Ms Randall was reported missing.

The disappearance prompted a police search over her whereabouts after she failed to return home to her partner.

Her family also searched high and low to find her to no avail. Ms Randall struggled with addiction, but for her to go missing was completely out of character.

It was about to go from bad to worse for her family, who soon were given unimaginably heart breaking news.

On Monday, May 16, her body was found at an address in Clas Y Deri in Waunarlwydd, Swansea.

A 67-year-old man arrested in connection with Ms Randall’s death has been released on police bail. A murder investigation has been initially launched but police say the cause of her death is currently "unexplained".

Miss Davies explained: "We took her presents and she was really grateful for them. She was clean for a few weeks, so it was quite nice to see her clean and doing well.

"I don't remember any specific conversations we had but she was really emotional that we gave her presents, she probably didn't expect it, because we were not close to her because of her lifestyle choices. We definitely didn't imagine it would have been the last time we saw her.

"She was reported missing on May 5 and that went on for two weeks. We were told there were possible sightings and that gave us some hope that she was still alive, but unfortunately that was of a different woman matching her description. For her to go missing was very out of character for her.

"After going out to look for her ourselves, we were hitting dead ends all the time. Two family liaison officers came to my door and told me the news that they found her in the garden.

"It was a shock. It was horrible. She had her own issues, she was a heroin user and led quite a chaotic lifestyle, but we didn't expect her to go in that way. Our family had actually searched for her in the property where she was found, so that's the most chilling part. She was out the back all along."

Ms Randall's daughter described how whilst she was growing up, she was "a brilliant mother" who was a talented hairdresser and well-known within the Sandfields, Port Talbot community.

She explained how she experienced immense tragedy in her life which led her life to take a path of addiction.

"It is completely devastating," Miss Davies said. "No matter what lifestyle somebody takes, the way she was found is the thing we cannot comprehend as a family. It's so sad. We haven't been able to process it ourselves yet.

"Lately, she was relapsing less, and there were times she would go weeks without it. It's sad because she was the last one of her generation, there's nobody above us now. Her brothers died, her parents died, there's nobody left bar her children, which makes it very sad.

"She was a brilliant mother, and looked after us really well when we were younger. Everyone liked her, she was well-known, she was a hairdresser in the community. She was really nice and smart and got along with everyone, but her life took a different path.

"She had a lot of trauma in her life - she lost her dad, then she lost her brothers all one by one, and then her mum died, there were so many tragedies and family deaths. She had a lot of grief and a lot of loss. Her nephew also died. It's a lot for one person.

"We had a really nice bond when I lived with her when I was younger. At Christmas time we'd always be doing things, we'd be out at summer, she'd take us out places in the car - she tried her best to give us stability but she struggled with it.

"Our needs were always met and we weren't without anything, but her lifestyle got in the way. We'd go to Oakwood and beach days out and just away for a couple of days - just things like that are really memorable.

"She had a few hairdresser shops which were about to open but it never quite came off. She was mobile for a while and worked in salons and she also ran a tuck shop for a while. She used to go around in a tuck van for a short while in the Sandfields area of Port Talbot.

"Everyone knew the lifestyle she ended up having but she was still well-known and people had sympathy for her. When she was clean she was the nicest person ever and was very approachable. She was someone who had a lot of pain and suffering but kept trying and kept going and kept plodding on.

"She lost her leg four years ago and was in a wheelchair, but nothing really set her back. She was quite cheeky but in a nice way. She was very friendly and approachable and straight to the point."

South Wales Police said it is continuing to investigate the unexplained death of Ms Randall and that a 67-year-old man remains on police bail.

Detective superintendent Darren George from the force's major crime team said: "A forensic post mortem examination took on Wednesday, May 18, and the cause of Ms Randall’s death is unexplained at this time and the investigation is ongoing. As a result, further tests are being carried out.”

Ms Randall's funeral will be held on June 21 at Margam Crematorium at 12 noon. Everyone is welcome to attend and pay their respects.
