Woman found dead after house fire in Leigh-On-Sea, Essex

A woman has been found dead in a fatal house fire in a seaside town in Essex.

Firefighters worked to evacuate neighbours and stop the flames from spreading at a house in Mountdale Gardens, Leigh-on-Sea after it burst into flames about 2.15am on Wednesday.

Tragically, a woman found inside was already dead.

The cause of the fire is being investigated and her death is not currently being treated as suspicious by police.

A spokesman for Essex fire service said: “After evacuating neighbours from either side of the property, firefighters worked to stop the fire from spreading to neighbouring properties. The fire was extinguished by 4am.

“An investigation will be held to determine the cause of the fire. Sadly, a woman died at the scene.”

Essex Police added: “We were called to a fire at a house in Mountdale Gardens, Leigh-on-Sea shortly after 2.15am today.

“Sadly, a woman found inside had died.

“Essex County Fire and Rescue Service will carry out an investigation into the cause of the fire but we are not currently treating the woman’s death as suspicious.”
