Woman forced to apologise for eating Terry's chocolate orange in 'offensive' way

A celebrity has issued an apology after she filmed herself biting into a Terry's chocolate orange - to the dismay of many. Brits were horrified to see New Zealand's Jazz Thornton using the 'offensive' approach, rather than the traditional whack-on-a-table method. So extreme was the backlash, the mental health activist from Auckland had to upload a second video, begging for forgiveness.

The original video, shared to TikTok, saw the influencer trying out UK treats, like Yorkshire Tea and the ill-fated chocolate orange. In the next clip, she then excitedly tries a Terry's chocolate orange for the first time.

But the taste test quickly went wrong when unsure tuck into the treat, Jazz opted to bite it. As she soon realised, the orange is made from segments, which began to fall away from her. The celeb's unsuccessful attempt baffled British viewers, with some even taking offence in jest.

One commented: "Someone taking a full bite of a Terry's chocolate orange is one of the most cursed things," while another said: "YOU DID NOT JUST BITE A CHOCOLATE ORANGE."

Meanwhile, a third person wrote: "I’m more offended she’s said Terry's orange chocolate. No it’s a Terrys chocolate orange!!!"

Thankfully, Jazz quickly learned her lesson and was willing to admit her mistake. A day later she uploaded a grovelling apology video addressed to the "entirety of the UK".

In it, she recognised she had done something "very offensive" but claimed she didn't know she would cause so much upset and uproar.

Adding that she did not notice any instructions on the packaging explaining how to eat the orange in the proper fashion, she then filmed herself whacking it on a table to a chorus of "oooooh, ahhhhh", before announcing: "I get it now!"

Explaining how it all went so wrong, Jazz said: "Look, I opened it and saw that it was in slices so I assumed that you had to get the slices.

"I tried breaking it apart it with my fingers but that was unsuccessful so I just… bit into it. I immediately knew my mistake when I felt the slices in my mouth fall apart. I would like to point out my wrapper didn’t say whack to unwrap it!"

Reflecting on the backlash, she added: "I didn’t know how much of a treatise Terry's chocolate orange was until now, apparently it’s quite a big deal haha.

"I need time to recover. The Brits need time to forgive."

Thornton is well known in New Zealand for being the winner of Dancing with the Stars.
