A woman has been slammed for forcing her boyfriend to give up his T-shirt at an airport to protect her new £169 suitcase. Jen was travelling home to San Diego, California, after enjoying a holiday in Mexico with her boyfriend when she went into panic mode at the airport.
An airport worker told her she'd have to check in her new BEIS Travel suitcase because it was too big for the overhead bin. Thinking on her feet, she asked her boyfriend to part with his T-shirt so she could wrap it around her £169 ($218) suitcase to prevent it from being scratched in transit.
In a viral TikTok video, she wrote: "When you're forced to check in your new BEIS carry-on and you decide your boyfriend can buy a new shirt." While some users praised her quick thinking, others claim her relationship is doomed as she prioritised a suitcase over her partner.
One user commented: "It’s literally a suitcase." Another user added: "Okay because I would literally do this and my bf wouldn’t mind because he’s the best."
A third user said: "Why buy a bag that you're afraid to send through the airport?" One more user added: "My weekender is destroyed from checking it. I should have done this instead."
In a second video, she shows an airport worker slapping a 'fragile' sticker on to the side of his T-shirt to further 'protect' her luggage. She added: "It was my idea to put the T-shirt on my carry-on, but it was my boyfriend's idea to tell them it was fragile."
In response to this, one user said: "This is what happens when people buy things they can't afford." Another user added: "OMG I don't know how I didn't think of that! Europe messed me up checking in my carry on because there was no more space!"
