Woman fighting for life after knife attack in south-east London

A woman is in hospital fighting for her life after she was stabbed in south-east London.

The woman, believed to be in her 30s, suffered knife wounds at an address in Penhill Road, Bexley, just after 4pm on Tuesday.

Police were scrambled and were on the scene within three minutes of being alerted. She was treated at the property before being taken to hospital where her condition is described as critical.

There have been no arrests and police are hunting for a suspect who they believe is known to the vicitim.

Inspector Graham Rickard, from the local policing team in Bexley, said: “We arrived at the scene within three minutes of the initial report and provided first aid to the victim until paramedics arrived.

"Sadly she is very seriously injured and has been taken to hospital in a critical condition. At this very early stage we believe the suspect is known to her.

"Officers remain at the scene and in the area carrying out a number of inquiries.”

A police cordon was set up around the house where the incident happened. Police are collecting CCTV and doorbell footage from around the area as forensics officers trawl for clues.

A Met statement said: "We were called at 16:07hrs on Tuesday, 16 January to Penhill Road Bexley to reports that a female had been stabbed.

"The victim – believed to be in her 30s – was taken to hospital in a critical condition. Inquiries are ongoing. There has been no arrest."
