Woman 'felt like crying' after first night out in ages turned sour

A woman "felt like crying" after her first night out with her husband in some time.

Jane Kenny, 64, from Whiston attended Paul Carrack's concert at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall with husband Gary, 68, yesterday (January 30).

They received the tickets as a Christmas present from their son and daughter-in-law and it was the couple’s first night out for some time.

It also came as a respite for a stressful period for Jane and Gary, who had moved from their home in Garston to a bungalow in Whiston on Friday (January 28) due to their health - Gary suffers from Parkinson's disease and Jane has cancer.

The couple said they had a great time at the concert, but the manner in which their night out ended tainted the entire experience.

Having spent £60 on a programme and signed CDs for themselves and their son, Jane and Gary left the Philharmonic, on Hope Street, without their bag of purchases at the end of the concert.

When they realised and returned minutes later, the bag had gone. As it had not been handed in, Jane assumed someone else took it with them.

Jane said: “It was a great night - the support act were great and obviously Paul Carrack was.

“I went down after the support act and I bought a programme, two CDs of the support act Jazz Morley and two CDs of Paul Carrack.

“I had the CDs signed. Two said ‘To Joe and Meeve’ for our son and daughter-in-law and ‘To Jane and Gary’ was written on the other two and the programme. It all came to £60 and was in a white bag.

“At the end of the concert when we were leaving, I picked my handbag up and said to Gary that we should take our rubbish with us. I had the rubbish in my hand as well as my handbag.

“We got in the car and we’d only been gone a couple of minutes - we were in Princes Road - and I realised that I didn’t have the white bag.

“So we went back straight away and I think it was the manager who said that they hadn’t had any calls to say that anything had been handed in.”

Jane then went up to the circle to check their seats, but nothing was there.

She added: "With it being in Liverpool, I thought that someone would’ve handed the bag in.

"But we assume that someone has taken the bag because it’s not been handed in."

"It tainted the night out, it really did. After moving house on Friday, the pair of us were absolutely shattered. We were looking forward to the night out as a break from the unpacking.

"Moving house is stressful enough and we’d been let down on places three times, so it has been a stressful nine months. We hadn’t been out together for ages and we’d had such a good night, but when I came back out, I just felt like crying.

"I was also upset to think that someone could have done that, especially when the CDs have names written on them as well."

Jane said she left her number with the staff at the Philharmonic and hopes someone will hand in the bag of merchandise.

As things stand, she has not heard anything.

When contacted by the ECHO, Liverpool Philharmonic Hall declined to comment.
