Woman drives 25 miles with no idea she has a dead body trapped under her car

A woman has driven nearly 25 miles with a dead body trapped under her car.

She was driving on the motorway with her daughter when they both noticed something lying in the middle of the road as they approached it at speed.

Initially thinking it was a wooden log on the tarmac, the mother tried to swerve but the vehicle’s right wheel passed over the large object.

She continued driving until her daughter pointed out that she believed it was a human body.

The daughter added that she thought she saw the body with its head “caved in.”

The incident took place on the BR-040 highway in Luziânia, Goiás State, Brazil, in the early hours of March 7.

The mother stopped the car on the hard shoulder and called the local authorities on her phone to report the incident.

However, when she saw emergency vehicles arriving at the scene, she drove away because it was dark and raining heavily at the time, according to the local fire department.

The woman had no idea the body was now lodged underneath her vehicle.

The pair arrived at their home in the Federal District when the daughter noticed a leg sticking out from under the vehicle.

Initially, firefighters said the mother drove 12 miles (20km) with the body trapped under the vehicle, but the Civil Police of Goiás later confirmed that it was around 25 miles (40km).

Firefighters on the scene jacked up the car and found the male victim’s body underneath the vehicle with his arm trapped on the front CV axle.

Federal Highway Police officers and forensic experts arrived at the house and the body was taken to the Legal Medical Institute to undergo an autopsy.

The driver was taken to a police station in Luziânia to leave a statement.

Meanwhile, the police found the victim’s belongings on the road, which included BRL 237 (£38) in cash, a packet of cigarettes and a lighter, and a pair of shoes.

The police are waiting for the papiloscopy and autopsy results to identify the victim and his cause of death.

The investigation is ongoing.
