A woman was attacked and doused in - what police believe was - petrol in a terrifying ordeal, after a row broke out in the street.
The “very unusual” incident happened in Dumfries, Scotland, with police appealing for information.
The incident involved a gang of youths at about 8.40pm on Thursday, December 22, the Daily Record reports.
It is believed the incident was later streamed on social media.
An argument between the victim and members of the group, one of whom was carrying a petrol can, had taken place.
The same gang is thought to have been involved in an incident close to the North West Community Campus when a man walking past was verbally abused.
DC James Kirkpatrick, who is leading the enquiry, said: “This a very unusual incident within Dumfries and Galloway.
“We are keen to speak with anyone who may have been in the area of Alloway Road between 8pm and 9pm on December 22 and may have witnessed anything relating to this.
“We would also like to hear from anyone who has dashcam footage of that area during the same time period.
“The victim describes the assailants as carrying a red petrol can.
“One male youth had jet black hair, small in height and about 15 years old dressed all in black, another had a bike wearing a light green jacket, grey jumper and tracksuit bottoms.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
