Woman discovers 'secret' petrol pump button that stops her overspending

With the price of petrol continuing to soar across the country, many people are looking for ways to reduce their spending at forecourts.

One driver, Liv, has found a neat little trick to help motorists control their petrol spending. In a video she shared on TikTok, the 23-year-old revealed a 'secret' button at the pump that will cap how much money will go into filling up her car.

It comes shortly after a wave of protests against rising fuel costs brought the motorway to a standstill, with many calling for fuel duty to be cut. Previous attempts at a fuel duty cut by the government in March did nothing to stop rising fuel costs, with a new record-high of 191.4p being met on Thursday.

In her video, Liv explains: "How did I never know this existed?! If you click this button two times ten for £20. It will stop itself at exactly £20.

"Wow! That's so cool." She caught the moment her petrol pump screen kept going up while she was filling up her car until it completely stopped at exactly £20.

Liv also filmed a close-up of the preset section on the bottom-right-hand side of the pump, which had five buttons of different price and litre options as well as an explanation on how to use them. Since posting the video on social media, it has garnered over two million views, 164,000 likes, and thousands of comments, the Mirror reports.

One user, Kelsey, said: "Wait. You mean no more £20.01???" Another user, Clueless Mom, replied that not all petrol stations will have the button, but it's a "game changer" for those that do.

A third user wrote: "You can also set it to stop at a certain literage too. Tesco is the only ones I know with it tho."

"Always learning," proclaimed someone else. A different user added: "I've never seen this."

However, some were quick to point out that the button won't reduce the price in relation to the amount of fuel. User Gem wrote: "Where did £20 get you tho…. To the next street???"
