A woman in her 90s has died with COVID-19 in a Darwin aged care home, NT Health has confirmed, as the territory is today reporting its highest daily caseload in more than six weeks.

In a statement, the department said the woman had "underlying health conditions" and died on April 16.

According to the Federal Government's latest aged care report, released last week, there are outbreaks in three NT aged care homes.

There were 27 active cases in residents and 31 in staff at the Regis Tiwi facility, the report said.

However, a spokesperson for Regis Tiwi said there were no longer any active cases in residents.

The NT has today announced 594 new cases of coronavirus, the highest daily caseload since March 4.

Of today's cases, 440 were recorded in the Top End, 59 in Central Australia, 12 in East Arnhem, 13 in the Big Rivers region, 12 in the Barkly  and 58 were still under investigation.

The number of active cases in the NT is 3,050.

It comes as today there are 44 patients with coronavirus in territory hospitals, with seven in need of oxygen and two in intensive care.

Yesterday, there were 43 people in hospital with COVID-19, a substantial increase from the 30 people in NT hospitals with COVID-19 on Monday.

Since the start of the pandemic, the NT has recorded 38 COVID-related deaths.
