Woman dies in Cumbernauld house fire as two men left fighting for their lives

A woman has died and two men are fighting for their lives after a house fire in Cumbernauld.

Emergency services were called to a property on Glen Fyne Road after the alarm was raised just after 6am this morning.

Police cordoned off the street to assist as fire crews battled to control the blaze.

Sadly a 79-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Two men, aged 82 and 50, were rushed to Glasgow Royal Infirmary with serious injuries.

Pictures from the scene show emergency services outside the semi-detached property, which suffered extensive damage as a result of the blaze.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed that the blaze has been contained and is being extinguished, the Daily Record reports.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 6.25am on Friday, 1 July, to a report of a house fire in Glen Fyne Road, Cumbernauld. Emergency services attended and a 79-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Two men, aged 82 and 50, were taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary with serious injuries and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said earlier: “We were alerted at 6.05am on Friday, July 1 to reports of a house fire. Operations Control mobilised six fire appliances and an aerial height appliance to Glen Fyne Road in Cumbernauld.

"The fire has been contained and is presently being extinguished.”
