A 56-year-old man has been charged with murder after a woman was stabbed to death outside a hotel in the Darwin CBD early on Friday evening.

The 51-year-old woman, believed to be the man's partner, was allegedly stabbed with a knife in a "domestic-related incident" in a nearby park, according to Northern Territory Police.

Police say she ran to the DoubleTree by Hilton, a hotel on Darwin Esplanade, for assistance.

Emergency services were called to the hotel just before 6pm.

Paramedics treated the woman before taking her to Royal Darwin Hospital, but she died a short time later.

Geoffrey Bates from St John Ambulance attended the hotel, and said he treated a woman with a "single stab wound on her chest".

"When we walked in, we found a lady [who] had been stabbed, was in cardiac arrest, getting very good CPR from bystanders," he said.

"We've then taken over, managed to restart her heart and then transported her through to hospital.

"She then has subsequently died in hospital, which is very unfortunate and we really feel for the family."

Indigenous Affairs Minister Linda Burney was staying in the hotel where the woman was treated.

She released a statement saying her staff had tried to help the woman while she comforted the woman's family.

"My heartfelt condolences go out to the woman's family and her loved ones," Ms Burney said.

"I want to thank the hotel staff, the Northern Territory Police and the paramedics who attended."

Ms Burney said it would inappropriate for her to provide any further comment.

Two people injured in separate incident

In a separate incident on Friday night, NT Police said a 22-year-old woman allegedly stabbed two people at Casuarina Shopping Centre.

A 29-year-old woman was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital suffering non-life threatening injuries to her back, and a 41-year-old man was treated by paramedics at the scene for leg injuries.

That alleged stabbing followed an argument in the shopping centre's underground car park, police said.

The 22-year-old woman remains in custody.

Both incidents come less than four weeks after 20-year-old Declan Laverty was fatally stabbed at a Darwin bottle shop.

It led thousands of people to attend an anti-crime rally in Darwin, calling for urgent action by the Northern Territory government.

New bail law changes were subsequently legislated in an attempt to stamp out violent knife crime.

Bail changes sent 'a strong message'

Chief Minister Natasha Fyles released a statement on Saturday afternoon, saying her "heart goes out to all those affected last night".

She also said the government had sent "a strong message to the community" regarding its bail changes for youths and adults.

"We have … legislated an urgent amendment to include a new presumption against bail for violent offences involving a weapon," she said.

Natasha Fyles says the government has acted following community concern.

"The presumption against bail extends to co-offenders who participate in violent offences involving a weapon, even if they do not possess the weapon themselves.

"If you are charged with a violent offence involving a weapon, it is expected that you will remanded in prison until your case is determined."

'It's not enough'

Lia Finocchiaro is calling on the Northern Territory government to take "stronger action" against crime. (ABC News: Callum McLaughlin)

Opposition Leader Lia Finocchiaro said the territory government needed to implement further reforms.

"Territorians have been crying out that, if the government doesn't take stronger action, someone would lose their life, then Declan lost his," she said in a statement.

"Since then, territorians have gathered en masse with a simple message: 'Enough is enough'.

"But the calls of territorians were not enough to get the Fyles government to act. So, today, we wake up with another loss of life, and another two victims of knife crime at a major shopping centre."
