Woman dies after reports of attack by at least two dogs inside house

A woman in her 60s has died after reportedly being mauled to death by at least two dogs inside a home. Witnesses have reported hearing the attack and seeing at least two dogs.

North West Ambulance Service was called to St Brigids Crescent in Vauxhall, Merseyside at 4.25pm on Monday amid reports of a woman being attacked by dogs. They found a woman, in her 60s, dead inside the property and called Merseyside Police, reports The Echo.

12 police cars, three ambulances and a fire engine were sent as police established a cordon. Forensics officers were seen entering the home and taking pictures.

Witnesses reported "at least two dogs" were involved in the attack. Another said that she "heard screams" from the direction of the home after 4pm. She said: "My husband came home at about 4pm and I heard a woman's screams at some point after that. When I heard what happened I was shocked.

"The family must be devastated, you can't put it into words really."

A man, who asked not to be named said: "Obviously it's sad isn't it." A woman who lives in the area, said: “It’s just so awful, you can’t imagine how much the family are hurting right now."

Hundreds of people took to The ECHO comments section to pay tribute to the woman and send well wishes to her family. Rachel Flood said: "So sad such a lovely woman. RIP thinking of all her family x"

Tricia Massey said: "Breaks my heart every time I hear anything like this. Brings back horrible memories. Sending love to her family and friends xxx" Ann Gibney said: "So so sad RIP beautiful. Absolutely devastated thinking of all your lovely family."

Theresa Smith said: "Heartbreaking thinking of all the family, devastated for yous all."

Detective Inspector Gavin Mulcahy said: "We understand the shock that this incident will cause in the local community and beyond. Our officers are at the scene carrying out further enquiries so if you have any information please let us know."
