Woman dies after husband accidentally reverses over her in church car park

An elderly woman has died as a result of injuries sustained when her husband accidentally ran her over in a church car park in Sydney, Australia in the early hours of Monday morning.

Local news reports that the 70-year-old woman had just been dropped at the car park of Castle Hill Baptist Church, where she ran a bible study group, when the tragic accident occurred.

The woman's husband, also 70 years old, is understood to have been driving the car and accidentally reversed over her in the car park on Showground Road.

NSW Ambulance paramedics rushed to treat the woman but, unfortunately, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to The Mirror, the husband was not injured in the accident but was taken to Westmead Hospital for mandatory testing.

No arrests have been made at the time of writing.

Pastor Ian Deane told reporters at the scene that this was an "extremely tragic" accident.

He said: "She’s been an active member of the church and the person who witnessed it is also an active member of the church, it’s just tragic... just incredibly sad."
