Woman dies after car crashes into wall in Scots town as police appeal for information

A woman has died after the car she was driving crashed into a wall in Renfrewshire.

The tragic incident took place at the Beith Road at the junction with Overton Road in the town of Johnstone around 3.30am on Thursday, September 15. Officers were alerted to a blue Vauxhall Astra having ploughed into a wall.

A 31-year-old woman, the driver and only occupant of the vehicle, was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow by ambulance. She could not be saved and was pronounced dead a short time later.

The road was closed following the horror smash while cops launched an investigation into the event. It reopened hours later, around 7am. Anyone who has any information on the crash is being urged to come forward.

Sergeant James Crawford, Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the family.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen the car before the crash to get in touch with us.

"Likewise, anyone who may have dashcam footage of that area please review it and contact police with anything that may be relevant.”

Anyone with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 0324 of 15 September, 2022.
