A woman has died after being hit by a train near Swansea.
British Transport Police and the Welsh Ambulance Service were called to an incident on the railway tracks between Skewen and Llansamlet shortly after 3.30pm on Thursday, February 17.
Locals reported a heavy emergency service presence in the area throughout Thursday afternoon and Great Western Railway closed the railway lines between Swansea and Neath stations whilst police and paramedics remained at the scene.
Police have now confirmed a woman died in the incident.
A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to the line near Llansamlet at 3.32pm yesterday, Thursday, February 17, following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
"Paramedics also attended, and sadly a woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson added: "We were called shortly after 3.30pm yesterday, Thursday, February 17, to reports that a person had been struck by a train near Skewen train station.
"We sent two rapid response vehicles, one emergency ambulance and an ambulance officer, as well as the Trust’s Hazardous Area Response Team and Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service Wales colleagues."
