Police in Brazil have detained a woman suspected of wheeling a dead man, who she claimed was her uncle, to a bank to withdraw a four-figure loan. The incident, captured on video and widely shared on social media, has sparked a national conversation in Brazil.
The footage shows the woman at a Rio de Janeiro branch of Itau Bank, attempting to get the elderly man in a wheelchair to sign off on a loan worth $3,000. Despite her efforts to prop up his head and hand him a pen, the man remains unresponsive, with limp arms and a head that keeps falling back.
During the encounter, the woman is heard urging the man to sign, expressing frustration and pleading with him to avoid further complications. Bank attendants eventually noticed the man's condition and called for an ambulance.
Upon arrival, paramedics determined that the man had been dead for a couple of hours, indicating that he was already deceased when brought to the bank. The police are investigating the incident and seeking to clarify the relationship between the woman and the deceased man.
While the family's lawyer disputes the police's version of events, claiming that the man was alive upon arrival at the bank and that the woman is in a distressed state, authorities are continuing their inquiries without pressing charges at this time.
