Christmas can be an expensive time, and the rising cost of living means many people will be even keener to cut back on costs where they can this year. Thankfully, you don't need to spend a fortune to make your home look like Santa's workshop, as demonstrated by one thrifty shopper.
Taking to the popular Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK, the crafter showed how she was able to make a candy cane wreath decoration by festooning a simple hula hoop with decorations. All in all, the wreath set her back around £11 to make and looks like something you'd pay much more for.
Facebook user Fiona, who has a knack for arts and crafts, shared a pic of her creation with other group members, revealing she'd bought the hula hoop for just 30p from Wilko. She was able to purchase the remainder of her materials from Home Bargains, spending around £1.99 for four when buying her decorative candy canes.
Fiona fastened the evergreen fir tinsel to her hula hoop frame using a glue gun, transforming the ordinary children's toy into a decoration anybody would be proud to hang in their homes. She then added her baubles and a string of twinkling fairy lights.
Fiona's masterpiece went down a treat with other festive-minded members of the group, many of whom shared photos of their own marvellous handmade creations.
One person applauded: "Amazing! You could make these and sell them. I for one would love one."
Another approved: "That looks fab. You've inspired me! I'm going to give it a go."
A third commented: "Omg would you make me one? I'd I gave you money. It's absolutely amazing, lush!"
