Woman covered in blood after being 'thrown from car' near Scots roundabout

A woman was left covered in blood on a busy roundabout after she was allegedly thrown from a moving car.

Emergency services were scrambled to the B7078 between Canderside Toll and Blackwood at around 8.40pm on Friday, April 29.

The alarm was raised by drivers who stopped to help the injured woman as she lay helplessly on the road.

The 31-year-old suffered a deep cut to her head and injuries to her feet, before she was aided by passers-by, one of whom was a nurse.

An eyewitness described how the car from which the woman had been allegedly thrown was seen swerving erratically on the road with a passenger door open moments before the incident.

She said: "Sadly I witnessed the incident first hand as the lass was thrown somehow from the car next to me onto the road from a moving vehicle at about 30mph.

"In my passenger wing mirror I saw a white vehicle slip up the inside so quickly, I was thinking they were trying to cut me off just because of the speed they were going.

"But then in my wing mirror I clocked there was a door open on their passenger side.

"When I came back around the roundabout, where all this had happened, I saw what I initially thought was a big black bin bag, then realised it was a person."

The car in question then sped off before a number of passersby pulled in to help the woman and alerted the police.

The eyewitness continued: "I remember seeing the driver blasting off with the door flapping.

"The woman involved was curled up in the fetal position and had bare feet because her slippers had come off metres away.

"She had cuts on her feet and had a big head wound and there was a large lump of blood on the road where she hit it.

"I got my dressing gown from my car to keep her warm because she was in shock and shaking and the nurse put a compression on her head.

"Two men had also stopped after seeing what happened and they said that they had literally saw her tumbling out of the door."

Police have said enquiries into the full circumstances remain ongoing and anyone with information is being urged to come forward.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8.40pm on Friday, 29 April, police were called to the B7078 between Canderside Toll and Blackwood, following a report of a 31-year-old woman being injured in an incident with a car. She was taken to hospital for treatment and enquiries into the full circumstances remain ongoing.

“Officers are keen to speak with anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information. If you believe you can assist our enquiries, please call 101, quoting incident 3613 of 29 April.”
