Woman claims she was sold 'slimy and raw' chicken burger at KFC

A woman has slammed her local KFC after claiming she was sold a partially raw chicken burger - which she said was so bad she vomited after biting into it. Mum-of-three Mechelle Corten went to the KFC restaurant in East Retail Park in Maesglas, Newport on Tuesday, September 27 with a group of friends and ordered a trilogy box meal.

After receiving their order, Ms Corten, 32, claimed she bit into her Zinger burger before realising that something was wrong. “Part of the burger was thinner and I was eating that,” she said. “As I got to the thicker bit and bit into it I felt my teeth go right through the chicken, kind of like the way it feels when the knife goes through raw chicken when you’re cutting it.”

Ms Corten said she “instantly pulled away” and looked at the burger, which she claims was “slimy and raw.” Saying she felt “physically sick” when she realised what was happening, Ms Corten took the burger to the counter and told a member of staff, who she claims apologised when they saw it.

“One of them, I think it was a manager, came out and agreed it was raw, apologised and refunded me. I told them I wanted to take it further and they told me I’d have to do that online. There were a couple of people in the queue while I was at the counter, and they actually cancelled their orders when they heard what had happened."

Ms Corten, from Newport, has raised a complaint against KFC online and said she felt so sick at the thought of what had happened that she went home and vomited. “I felt physically sick and I went into panic mode thinking I was going to get food poisoning. I couldn’t get the thought of the food out of my head and said I needed to go home, which is when I got sick.”

Ms Corten said she didn't suffer any food poisoning but said of the experience: “I never want to eat KFC again. I’ve eaten there quite often and never had an issue with raw food."

A KFC spokesperson said: "Safety is always our number one priority, and we follow thorough cooking procedures in all of our restaurants. Our chicken is cooked at 365 degrees, so we were surprised to see this and we have not had any similar complaints. That said, this wasn’t a great experience so to make things right our team offered the guest a refund on the spot."
