Woman claims Premier League star Jonjo Shelvey 'put on his own highlights' after night out

Jonjo Shelvey didn't get many opportunities to showcase his talents at Nottingham Forest last season, but he did allegedly try to impress one woman after a night out by showing her his highlight reel.

The ex- Liverpool and Newcastle midfielder, 31, is said to have brought a girl, named Sophie, back to his place following a night on the town. Shelvey was with Forest team-mate Chris Wood, who he also played alongside at Newcastle, and the pair are claimed to have been joined later on by former Manchester United star Jesse Lingard, who spent last season in Nottinghamshire.

Sophie, pictured wearing an Arsenal shirt on dating app Hinge, shared the anecdote under the prompt 'Most spontaneous thing I've done'. She wrote in response: "Go back to Jonjo Shelvey's with Lingard and Chris Wood while he proceeds to put his own football clips on YouTube for us to watch, see below."

A screenshot of her Hinge profile was quickly shared on social media, with users immediately mocking Shelvey - who made just eight appearances for Forest during the second half of last season after leaving Newcastle. Some fans didn't believe it, though, prompting Sophie to share a Snapchat photo of the incident, showing a YouTube video entitled 'Jonjo Shelvey - The Playmaker (Skills & Goals Newcastle)'.

Her second post was a brief video of Wood holding the remote and searching for something on the television, while Shelvey sat slumped on the sofa scrolling through his phone. Twitter was ablaze with memes and comments ridiculing the 31-year-old, although one Forest supporter didn't see the funny side.

"Shelvey is an absolute amateur," they tweeted. "I wouldn't be wasting time searching for my goals, I'd have them saved in my favourites; ready to pull up at a moment's notice!"

Indeed, Shelvey's time at the City Ground has been forgettable, although he did play a minor role in Forest's survival last term, meaning that they'll once again be a Premier League club for the 2023-24 campaign.

Last featuring on April 8, it's alleged that the Romford-born player took issue with manager Steve Cooper not giving him more game-time and his frustration boiled over behind the scenes.

Quizzed on whether Shelvey had been dropped from the squad due to his poor behaviour, Cooper replied: "And a knock, to be honest. Sometimes things are not exactly what they are and we have to accept that's the case."

The Forest boss went on to note: "He is really well liked in the dressing room, and we need everybody in the situation we are in and with the injuries we are picking up. There is no ill-feeling in any way, shape or form, regardless of what may or may not have been said... It wasn't as much of a drama as was said. In some ways it was a normal training ground thing. But it is past us."
