An alarming case has emerged in Australia where a 34-year-old woman from the Sunshine Coast has been accused of poisoning a one-year-old girl and sharing videos of the child's suffering online to attract viewers and donations. The woman allegedly administered unauthorized prescription and pharmacy medicines to the infant without medical approval over a period from August 6 to October 15, 2024.
According to Queensland Police, the woman obtained unapproved medications, including old medicines meant for another person, from their home. Medical staff at a hospital where the child was eventually admitted raised concerns to detectives, leading to the woman's arrest on Thursday.
Police claim that during the child's distress and pain, the woman filmed and posted videos of the infant, exploiting the situation to solicit monetary donations and gain online followers. Testing confirmed the presence of unauthorized substances on January 7, prompting the arrest.
The woman faces serious charges, including five counts of administering poison with intent to harm, three counts of preparation to commit crimes with dangerous items, and one count each of torture, making child exploitation material, and fraud. Detective Inspector Paul Dalton emphasized the severity of the case, stating that the Morningside Child Protection and Investigation Unit is dedicated to addressing the most egregious offenses against children.
The accused appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court and has been remanded in custody until January 28. Authorities stress that harming a child, especially a defenseless one-year-old, is inexcusable and will be met with swift and decisive action to ensure the safety and well-being of the child.
