Pilbara woman faces court, released on bail over alleged manslaughter of man in Roebourne

A woman charged with manslaughter over the death of a 49-year-old man in the Pilbara has been released on bail.

Kaye Warrie, 52, has been charged over her involvement in the man's death at Cheeditha Community near Roebourne.

Speaking to the ABC after Ms Warrie's court appearance, Homicide Squad Detective Senior Sergeant Michael Fogell said an incident at a house at the community on Saturday left the 49-year-old injured.

The man was taken to Roebourne Hospital for treatment, but died as a result of the injury.

Police were called to the hospital about 4pm.

"It was an unfortunate and tragic circumstance," Detective Senior Sergeant Fogell said.

"However, it has resulted in the death of a person and the facts presented to us gave us no option but to charge the woman."

Significant support in court

More than a dozen people sat in the public gallery for Ms Warrie's hearing in Karratha Magistrates Court on Monday.

One woman blew her a kiss and another called out "we love you mum", as Ms Warrie cried in the docks before the hearing.

An application for bail by Ms Warrie's lawyer Mickah Kickett, who appeared by video link, was not opposed by police prosecutor Sergeant Pippa Matthews.

Concerns over return to community

Both parties agreed there was no concern about Ms Warrie offending or not reappearing in court, but concerns had been raised about her safety.

Mr Kickett said Ms Warrie did not think that being bailed to Cheeditha, where she cares for a number of family members, posed any risks to her safety, while the prosecutor said Ms Warrie was not a risk to the community.

Sergeant Matthews told the court detectives were meeting with members of the Cheeditha community during Monday morning's hearing to determine any risk to Ms Warrie.

"At this stage, they have no concerns. They would be more concerned if she was placed into Roebourne Prison," Sergeant Matthews told the court.

Magistrate Cillian Stockdale said the safety concerns raised were not specific, but "more a general concern".

Mr Stockdale granted Ms Warrie bail with a condition that she report to Roebourne Police Station weekly.

She is due to face court again in February.
