Woman branded 'pathetic' for brutally honest verdict on best friend's wedding dress

Honesty is the best policy or so the saying goes. But is there a line that should never be crossed? This is the question that puzzled one wedding guest after the bride asked for feedback on her gown.

Unfortunately for the pair, the woman did not approve of her best friend's choice, and the bride burst into tears when her pal delivered her verdict after the big day - when it was too late to make a change.

Perplexed by the response, the guest then took to Reddit to ask if she'd been in the wrong. In the controversial post, she explained the bride petitioned her to share an honest evaluation.

The bride, who'd opted for a red dress at the behest of her husband's family, wasn't sure if she'd picked the right gown to pay homage to her partner's culture.

But she wasn't the only person who wasn't convinced. While her best friend supported her colourful choice, she didn't approve of the particular gown the bride selected.

"The dress didn't flatter her, nor the venue and I personally didn't like it," she recalled. The friend added that she kept her opinion to herself during the wedding - the first time she saw the gown.

"I wasn't gonna be the person to tell her that on her wedding day and ruin the night for her, so the rest of the day was very fun and I had an incredible time with her and all of our other friends."

However, she didn't mind delivering her verdict when asked to do so a couple of weeks later. Unenthused by her photos from the big day, the newlywed turned to her friend for advice, and it was then that her pal delivered the crushing blow.

"She asked me what I honestly thought about her wedding dress, and most respectfully, I told her that while I thought that the dress made her stand out amazingly and it was very unique, in my personal opinion, I wasn't very fond of it and that it did not flatter her," her post outlined.

"She was quiet for a second then she got up and left, even though I tried explaining to her that I didn't mean to offend or insult her, she left in the end. I tried messaging her but I got no response."

The friend later received a message from her friend's husband letting her know the bride "cried for hours" after their exchange. A mutual friend also reached out.

"One of her best friends sent me a long message about how while he agrees with me, I didn't have to tell her that because it isn't our place and that I came across as jealous and pathetic."

Accordingly, she then turned to Reddit, where users told the friend she should have delivered her opinion in a different way. Convinced, the woman reached out to her friend, as she revealed in a further post where she thanked commenters for their advice.

Explaining her response, she wrote: "I didn't want to lie to her since we've always had a very blunt relationship she's always told me the blunt truth, but keeping in mind that it was obviously a really big day for her I tried to be kind and sensitive about my honest opinion. But I see that I may have been too rude and not considerate of her feelings."

She added that the newlyweds found a solution - one they were able to come to after she told her friend the truth, as the bride hoped she would.

The friend explained: "She and her husband have decided to host a small wedding party with some close friends and family, where everything goes their way and where she can wear a dress she likes and take new photographs. I'm really excited for it!"

In response to the second post, a commenter said: "Glad you were the one she could trust to be real with her after all!!!!"

Another added: "I'm so glad you both were able to communicate and get everything sorted! Cheers to continuing your decade long friendship!"
