A woman has blasted Marks & Spencer's after buying an 'inedible' turkey crown from the supermarket chain for Christmas. The customer says that her turkey was a 'rip-off' as it had 'no meat' on it, reports Hull Live.
She took to social media to take aim at the retailer for ruining her family meal last month. The woman explained that she had pre-ordered the turkey back in October in anticipation of the festive season.
However, she revealed that when she went to open it on Boxing Day that the crown also had joints and a lot of bones which were just adding weight to the bird. The woman said: "Booked a 'feeds eight to 10' turkey crown in October, picked it up last week
"[The] weight seemed ok for feeding the eight to ten. Opened it to cook on Boxing Day, needing to feed nine of us only to find that tucked under the 'crown' and not visible through the packaging were the top joint and bones of the legs with no meat on them.
"So this inedible extra added to the weight and made the whole thing look larger than it was, carefully hidden by packaging. Family portions were small to make sure our guests ate well.
"We had a turkey crown from M&S last year and there were no leg parts attached so I do feel ripped off." The woman then posed a question asking others on the popular online forum: "If you had a turkey crown from anywhere this Christmas, did it include bits of leg?"
The turkey tale was quick to stir up conversation on social media with people quick to give their thoughts. Many people revealed that they also felt let down by their M&S turkey.
One person said: "I too was disappointed with my M&S turkey crown this year . Six to eight portions size which should have been fine for only four turkey eaters but I was pushed to get four decent portions and barely enough left for a sandwich.
"Fortunately I had ham and beef too." Another agreed stating "My £30 bit of turkey from M&S to feed four to six was lovely, but only enough to feed four to six baby sparrows.
"It was ridiculous. To be honest the whole £70 I spent on their Christmas food (as much as it was convenient) wasn't worth it at all and I wouldn't bother again."
A third stated: "I have bought the M&S turkey crown for years. It has always been on the breast bone but has never included the legs. I have always found that their guide as to how many it will feed is on the mean side and so buy one two sizes larger than they say."
A fourth person said: "I’ve found the M&S ones to be very variable. Ours was also an eight to 10 size - it was enough for five of us with plenty left over for sandwiches for two days.
"But not sure it would have been enough for ten people for dinner. There were some bones underneath but not as bad as a previous year when there was barely enough meat for five people"
Another person even claims that their M&S turkey was rotten. They said: "We usually get an M&S crown but went for a whole turkey this year.
"Never again, it had a use before date of 27/12, husband cooked it on the 24th. Come Boxing Day it was rotten. I've complained to them, to be honest it wasn't even all that nice on Christmas Day!"
